HTML Tutorial. For the benefit of my food class students and anybody else who happens to stop by.

Hi everybody,

Some of you have asked how to create links or use other HTML tags in your profile or assignments. Below you'll see the extent of my knowledge at the time I entered MSN (naturally I disguised my ignorance). That was enough at first, and I learned a lot more on the job.

The hard part is showing you how in Nicenet, because it turns all my sample links into hot links and then you can't see the code. So here goes:

1. For hyperlinks. Let's say classmate Judy Witts (coming to us Florence, the lucky girl),  wants to say, "Check out my scrumptious blog, Over a Tuscan Stove."

1. She will copy this simple bit of code and use it for her guide whenever she wants to link to something:

<A HREF="URL">here goes text to be clicked </A>

Where it says URL, she will sub in the URL for her blog.  http://divinacucina.blogspot.com

Where it says "Here goes text to be clicked," she will sub in "Over a Tuscan Stove."

Here's how it looks when it comes out of the oven:

Check out my scrumptious blog, <A HREF="http://divinacucina.blogspot.com">Over a Tuscan Stove </A>

2. For bold. Put <b> in front of the word or phrase. Put </b> in back of it.

<b>Anthony Bourdain</b>

REMEMBER THAT EVERY TAG NEEDS AN END TAG (the </b> in this case. Otherwise your whole page will turn bold.

3. For italics. Put <i> in front of the word. Put </I> in back of it.
 <i>Ruth Reichl </i>

4. To center. <center> before the word </center> after it.

<center> Over a Tuscan Stove</center>

That's all there is to it. Students, if you have any questions, post them in Conferencing. That way, if I'm not online, another student may ride to your rescue.

Best, Candace
